Government of Mauritius Scholarships – Fully Funded for International Students 2024

The Government of Mauritius offers to award scholarships to deserving students who are resident citizens of member states of the African Union or African Commonwealth countries.

The vision of the government is to create the next generation of forward-looking and innovative leaders contributing to the transformation of the Republic of Mauritius into a high ranking and prosperous nation. The Government’s mission is to re-engineer the education system to foster a knowledge-oriented, cohesive, inclusive and productive society.

General Eligibility Criteria for the scholarship

  • Candidates must be resident citizens of member states of the African Union or African Commonwealth countries.
  • For undergraduate programmes, applicants should be above 18 years of age and should not have reached their 26th Birthday by 01 January 2025.
  • For MPhil/PhD programmes, applicants should not have reached 40 years by 01 January 2025.
  • Applicants must have already applied for a full-time on-campus programme (Diploma, Degree, MPhil or PhD) at a public Higher Education Institution in Mauritius (listed in Section 8 in the relevant Guidelines for Applicants) for the academic Year starting in 2024.
  • The scholarship will be for a maximum duration as indicated in the table below or the minimum course duration

Eligibility requirements for Undergraduates

Candidates must have:

Either

(i). A minimum of five (5) credits at School Certificate (S.C), or General Certificate of Education

(G.C.E) ‘O’ Level or International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), inclusive of a credit in English Language or acceptable evidence of proficiency in English Language (as per para 1.3.3 below).

Or

(ii). Five (5) ‘O’ Level passes awarded by any other approved examination body deemed to be equivalent to (i) above, inclusive of a pass in English Language or acceptable evidence of proficiency in English Language (as per para 1.3.3 below).

Or

(iii) Qualification equivalent to (i) above.

Note:

(a) A pass in English at A-level will be acceptable in lieu of English Language at ‘O’ Level.

(b) A pass at subsidiary level and/or ‘A’ Level or equivalent will be acceptable in lieu of a pass at ‘O’ Level as per (i) and (ii) above.

(c) Some diploma programmes may have higher qualification requirements than those mentioned above and applications will be considered only for candidates meeting the minimum requirements of these programmes.

(d) Candidates already holding a diploma will not be considered.

(e) For those coming from a French speaking country at least an overall average of 60% or an overall average of 12/20;

Eligibility requirements for postgraduates

  • A recognized undergraduate degree with at least an upper second class degree (or CPA/GPA greater than 60%)

Requirement

1. Completed Application Form

2. Certified copy of Birth Certificate

3. Certified copy of biodata page of passport

4. Certified copies of educational certificates

5. Certified copies of transcripts

6. Copy of letter of conditional offer by a public Higher Education Institution in Mauritius (if available

7. At time of application) OR Copy of receipt from a public Higher Education Institution in Mauritius; and

8. Medical certificate to be duly filled and signed by a registered Medical Practitioner in Section 6 of the Application Form. This should be appropriately stamped and signed.
