About the role

As the Senior Mechanic, you will maintain rotating and other mechanical equipment safely and efficiently in all Savannah Energy’s facilities including its pipeline network in Nigeria; and satisfy the technical integrity target and ensure all mechanical equipment is operated within design limit.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose and establish baseline parameters and make recommendations as needed for necessary repair.
  • Work with the Maintenance Supervisor to oversee maintenance inspection and carry out repairs.
  • Work with third party contractors during major equipment overhaul and ensure tasks are carried out in accordance with approved scope of work and industry best practices.
  • Complete all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Observe company safety rules and regulations and continuously practice good housekeeping.
  • Report or correct any unsafe condition or practice and assist in organizing safely meetings; follows operation excellence tenets and guidelines.
  • Perform skilled mechanical work, such as precision equipment alignment, installing pumps, motors, compressors etc.
  • Perform detailed analysis of pumps, compressors, motors, gas engines, and other mechanical equipment and compare actual operating data with work specified on data sheets.
  • Collect and interpret operating and downtime data. Recommend and executes corrective actions.
  • Fabricate, assemble or install equipment and set up and evaluate performance of equipment.
  • Maintain work logs, repairs, and maintenance records.
  • Perform repairs on flanges, piping, valves, vessels, boilers/heaters, glycol regeneration system, mechanical refrigeration system, fuel gas system, water hydrant system, pressure regulators, heat exchangers, generators. Etc.
  • Report both normal and recurring conditions and recommend improvement as required.
  • Administer task according to standard operating procedures and system.
  • Assist the maintenance planner in developing details plan/schedules for plant turn around maintenance (TAM).
  • Observe all company safe work practices, job methods, code requirement, statutory requirement, and other SOP’s requirement.
  • Conduct tests to ascertain the safety of any mechanical designs.
  • Coordinate on the job training (OJT) for technicians.
  • Identify parts needed for replacement and place orders, as necessary.
  • Proficient in solving complex mechanical problems.
  • Perform skilled repair services of mechanical and basic structural systems and machinery equipment.
  • Maintain designed maintenance chart and recording for the purpose of reference.
  • Maintain a clean work environment in line with established standards of hygiene and housekeeping.
  • Work independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function.
  • Oversee maintenance inspection, assembles mechanical components and perform repairs while on shift.
  • Provide maintenance best practices and mentorship to the less experienced technicians.
  • Any other tasks that may assigned.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of City & Guilds Level 3 or OND in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited higher institution with at least five (5) years’ experience in maintenance activities in an Oil and Gas Processing facility, two of which must have been in a similar position.

Skills & Attributes

  • Skilled in the installation, repair, and maintenance of Mechanical equipment (CAT/Cummins Generators, Pumps, Turbines, Compressors, HVAC etc.) and components.
  • Knowledge of the rotating diagnostic tools, equipment and materials common to the Mechanical discipline.
  • Good time management and communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft office packages.
  • Must be conversant with PTW system, isolation, de-isolation, Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) system in oil/gas industry.
  • Knowledge of applicable mechanical codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Good understanding of work order system in SAP.
  • Strong attention to detail, innovative with an attitude for problem-solving.
  • Ability to operate different types of machinery and use various software programs.
  • Good understanding of documentation in the gas processing facility including: –
  • P & ID (Piping and Instrumentation diagrams, Process Flow Sheets)
  • General Assembly drawings
  • Piping Isometric drawings
  • Maintenance reporting
  • Equipment status data readings
  • Work permits
  • Incidents/Accident reports
  • Material Safety Datasheet (MSDS
