The Mastercard Foundation Scholars program at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana is a partnership between KNUST and the Mastercard Foundation, headquartered in Toronto Canada, to train altogether 2,250 scholars over an aggregated 15-year period to contribute significantly to societal change and the transformation of Africa. The program at KNUST provides access to quality university education to qualified academically talented yet economically disadvantaged young people in deprived communities of Ghana and Africa and empowers them to give-back to society.
The KNUST was established in 1964 and since 2005, has adopted the Collegiate System. Under this system, the various faculties have been condensed into six colleges. Since its inception, the University has been administered on the Faculty-based system. The University is situated approximately on a sixteen square-kilometre campus of undulating land and pleasant surroundings, about seven kilometres away from the cental business district of the city of Kumasi.

Eligibility Criteria for the scholarship
- All applicants and prospective candidates must have in their possession, a genuine and valid WASSCE or GBSC or ABCE or GCE O Level or their equivalent results from an accredited/recognized institution. Applicant’s result must not be more than five years old. NO AWAITING RESULTS candidate will be processed for the scholarship
- The candidate must further meet KNUST’s Admission requirements.
- The applicant must demonstrate that he/she has Critical Economic Needs.
- The applicant must have proven records of leadership and community engagements.
- Priority will be given to females, displaced persons, and persons living with disability.
- The applicant must be prepared to Go-Back and Give-Back to his/her community.
- The applicant must not be enrolled in any tertiary institution
